What is a MitraClip procedure?
MitraClip is a small device that stops leaks in the mitral valve. This valve controls the flow of blood between your lower left ventricle and the upper left atria of your heart. In mitral valve prolapse (MVP), the flaps of the mitral valve bulge backward into your heart’s upper chamber and disrupt blood circulation. When you have mitral valve regurgitation, the valve doesn’t close fully and can allow blood to leak. Blood leaks force your heart to work harder to pump blood out to the rest of your body. What can I expect during a MitraClip procedure?
